Welcome to Purssynian Cattery

Purssynian Cattery was established in 1985 by Beth and Darrell Newkirk. We were spectators at a local show in St. Louis, Missouri and had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with Cornelia Tichenor of Dearabi Cattery. We met a beautiful blue Aby kitten at that show: Dearabi Hillstreet. We instantly fell in love with the Blue Abyssinian. Thinking back, we went to that show to buy a Silver Persian!! Our first Aby was Van Dyke's Abi Alexis of Purssynian. Although Alex was our first love, our foundation queen was GC Cher-non's Ruffian of Purssynian. Ruffian was eventually bred to Ch Dearabi Hillstreet and produced GC Purssynian's Reggae Strutt, a very dark blue male that can be found in many of the dilute lines today.

Our Cattery has produced many CFA Grand Champions. We are proud to have produced CFA's very first Fawn Abyssinian DM, GC Purssynian's Sunhawke, DM. The title of Distinquished Merit (DM) is given to females that produce 5 Grand Champions and to males that sire 15 Grand Champions.

We are the very proud owners of GC Purssynian Jambe Finete, DM as the cat that has made history by breaking GC Cinna's Jack Daniel's long time held record for the cat producing the greatest number of grands produced by a single cat. "Jammer" is one of those rare males in a breeding program that consistently produces kittens of a quality even better than his own.

The Purssynian breeding program came to an end in 2011, after the passing of Beth.
